This course provides an introduction to dress history between 1530-1687: from the Tudors through the Civil War to James II. Themes will cover court dress, undergarments, the care of clothes, working and middle class dress, sports and pastimes and men’s dress and armour. The course will use paintings, sculpture and literature of the period to examine what people wore, and why.
