To those new to creative writing it aims to create a day where they can try exercises and decide if creative writing is for them. Taught by a published poet and short fiction writer, who also writes creative writing guides, it provides a day’s writing exercises and discussion for new and established writers to have fun with.

Language in Everyday Life – Derby Day School – Summer 2018

Awareness of the social, psychological and material basis of language can increase our enjoyment and understanding of it and make us still more effective. This day course will introduce you to topics such as the lexicon, conversation, politeness and language development, encouraging you to pose questions and explain your specific interests in language and its uses.

Living Folk/Living Art – Derby Day School – Summer 2018

Folklore costumes.jpgDrawing on local folkloric traditions, the course will use live art/performance to explore the traditions, rites and rituals that we use to mark our progress through life. Working with live artist and folklorist Chris Lewis-Jones, you will share your experience of rites and rituals before using combinations of installation art, intervention, music, drama, movement and poetry to devise a performative response to the various (geographical, ecological, economic, historical, architectural, cultural, artistic…) contexts in which we find ourselves.
