Folklore costumes.jpgDrawing on local folkloric traditions, the course will use live art/performance to explore the traditions, rites and rituals that we use to mark our progress through life. Working with live artist and folklorist Chris Lewis-Jones, you will share your experience of rites and rituals before using combinations of installation art, intervention, music, drama, movement and poetry to devise a performative response to the various (geographical, ecological, economic, historical, architectural, cultural, artistic…) contexts in which we find ourselves.

Composers of the USA – Spring 2018

We will listen to and appreciate a range of musical compositions which represent the development of musical styles during this period. By discussing the various aspects which make up an opera – e.g. music, libretto, singers, orchestra, production – you will be able to form a judgment about how opera does what it does. This will help you to watch opera with a greater understanding of how a composer’s initial idea ends up as a final production on the stage. It is a very interesting journey!

Music workshop – Autumn 2017

Sessions operate as band rehearsals, tackling accessible arrangements of a diverse musical repertoire for players of elementary to intermediate standard who have the ability to read standard music notation.
